The symbol on the left side of the MercyWatch logo is a koru, a traditional Maori symbol for new life, hope and peace. The New Zealand indigenous peoples use this image of an unfurling silver fern frond in much of their culture and elaborate tattoo art.
The letter M and letter W of MercyWatch are a mirror image of one another to create the effect of two diamonds. These diamonds are a creative representation of the Gerard Manley Hopkins S.J. poem "Immortal Diamond." We see our homeless sisters and brothers as the immortal diamonds God sees in each of them.
The logo was lovingly created and donated by Snohomish County graphic artist Brenda Maloney.
